A Message From Bill Heck
Medina County Republican Executive Committee Chairman
While the odd-numbered years are often referred to as "off years," they are the years in which those officials closest to home are elected. Township trustees and fiscal officers, city mayors and councilmen, and board of education members are among those who will have their names on the November ballot. The decisions that these officials make have a direct impact on our daily lives. Decisions about municipal and township services, property taxes, income taxes, and the education of our children all fall within the purview of these local officials.
Many of these elections are defined as "non-partisan" but we all know that the candidates have a tendency to lean to the right or left. Some are fiscal conservatives, some are not. Others are social conservatives while others are more liberal. Even when the contest is designated as non-partisan, the person elected will revert to his conservative or liberal leanings when making decisions.
The November election is all about grassroots politics. This is where tomorrow's congressmen, senators, governors and even presidents get their start. So don't sit on the sidelines. Connect with a local candidate who shares your views and your ideas for the future of your community. Then get involved. Everyone can do something to help. Go door-to-door. Make phone calls. And, of course, money is always welcome.
Throughout Medina County there are important issues to be addressed that will have an impact on our quality of life for years to come. Be sure that your voice is heard. Work to elect candidates who share your point of view.
This November's Grassroots Decisions Will Affect You!
