A RECORD OF EXCELLENCE!

FIRST TERM

  • Initiated Resolution to create smoke-free county buildings and vehicles.
  • Creative in finding additional parking spaces for the administration building.
  • Resolved a court order to provide law books to inmates.
  • Resolved the budget shortfall of the Drug Task Force, keeping their doors open.
  • Reorganized Mental Health services at the jail for a more productive and cost effective program.
  • Resolved the county office space shortage, creating a "one stop" service center.

SECOND TERM

  • Took the initiative in establishing the County's first Battered Women's Shelter.
  • Successfully obtained a state grant to help fund and build a critically needed Juvenile Detention Facility.
  • Worked with the County Prosecutor to resolve the funding needs needed for the purchase and renovation of the new County Prosecutor's building.
  • Responded to the growing needs of senior citizens, helping to expand services and programs. Pat saw to it that no senior needing a hot meal is on a waiting list!
  • Took the lead and coordinated efforts to upgrade the county's emergency dispatch and 911 systems.

 

THIRD TERM

  • Working with the Juvenile Judge, took the initiative to find funding to build a new "New Horizons Home" for our non-delinquent children in crisis.
  • Brought a free Senior Farm Market program to Medina County for low-income seniors. Pat organized the program with $7,500, her share of the proceeds from the Commissioners Charity Ball.
  • Organized a Railroad Task Force to evaluate and prioritize the 108 rail crossings in Medina County for enhanced safety devices such as gates and lights. The task force was recently notified that it had PUCO approval for funding for three crossings. Pat is working with several agencies in addition to the PUCO to attain 100% funding for these and future crossings.
  • Took up the issue of the high cost of indigent defense in 2003. Pat earned the support of her fellow commissioners to establish a Public Defenders Office in Medina County. The office saved Medina County $100,000.00 in legal defense fees in the first year!
  • Working with the Sheriff to look at possible programs to address the over-crowding in the county jail as an alternative to building more jail space.
